Pakistan Welcomes Supplemental Award on Kishenganga and Ratle Projects

Islamabad: Pakistan has expressed approval of the recent Supplemental Award announced by the Court of Arbitration concerning the ongoing dispute with India over the Kishenganga and Ratle hydroelectric projects. The Court has determined that its authority remains intact and emphasized its ongoing responsibility to manage the proceedings in an efficient and fair manner.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Court of Arbitration's decision to issue this Supplemental Award follows India's unilateral declaration to hold the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance. Pakistan has welcomed this announcement, as it supports the country's stance that the Indus Waters Treaty continues to be valid and operational. The award underscores that India does not have the authority to unilaterally alter or suspend the treaty terms.

Pakistan has called on India to resume the normal functioning of the Indus Waters Treaty without delay and to fully comply with its treaty obligations. The decision reaffirms the importance of adhering to established international agreements and sets a precedent for future conduct regarding shared water resources.
