Islamabad: Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari has announced an extensive restructuring of the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) to enhance the effectiveness and affordability of power supply across the nation. This initiative involves the division of NTDC into three separate entities, each dedicated to different aspects of the power supply chain. According to Radio Pakistan, during a news conference held in Islamabad, the Minister emphasized the necessity for a significant overhaul of NTDC as part of ongoing energy reforms. He stated that the current structure required an update to facilitate smoother operations and more efficient energy distribution. The restructuring plan includes the creation of an independent system market operator to optimize the purchase and sale of electricity. Additionally, the establishment of a national grid company of Pakistan is aimed at improving the management of the electricity supply system. The third entity, the Energy Infrastructure Developm ent and Management Company, will focus on the timely and cost-effective execution of power projects. The Minister assured that this restructuring would be completed by February next year, with all new companies fully operational by that time. Furthermore, he highlighted the three-month Electricity Sahulat Package introduced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as a significant step towards reducing electricity costs for consumers. In response to inquiries, Sardar Awais Leghari reiterated Pakistan's commitment to clean energy, noting that the country is a leading consumer of such energy in the region with no contribution to climate change. He projected that within the next decade, 88 percent of Pakistan's energy consumption would be derived from clean energy sources.
