Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a significant reduction in fuel prices, offering relief to citizens by decreasing the diesel price by 135 rupees per litre and petrol by 12 rupees per litre.
According to Radio Pakistan, in a public address, the Prime Minister detailed that diesel will now be priced at 385 rupees per litre, down from 520 rupees, while petrol will see a reduction from 378 rupees per litre to 366 rupees. These adjustments will take effect from midnight. The Prime Minister emphasized his commitment to passing on the benefits from reduced international market prices directly to the public, rejecting any proposals to withhold this financial relief. He highlighted the positive impact of these reductions on the agriculture sector, especially during the wheat harvesting period.
Additionally, Shehbaz Sharif confirmed the continuation of a targeted subsidy program in partnership with provincial governments. In another significant announcement, the Prime Minister expressed national pride in hosting the Iran-US peace talks in Islamabad. He expressed optimism that these discussions could pave the way for lasting peace in the region.
The Prime Minister praised the efforts of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, for their roles in facilitating a ceasefire between Iran and the United States and bringing both parties to the negotiation table. The leaderships of the two countries are set to meet in Islamabad on Saturday, with Pakistan committed to supporting the success of these talks. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called upon the nation to pray for the successful outcome of the dialogue.
